The Precision Imaging and 3D Modelling Lab is dedicated to advancing the field of digital photogrammetry scanning—a revolutionary method for capturing ultra-precise 3D spatial data from imagery. The Precision Imaging and 3D Modelling Lab offers cutting edge 3D scanner solution for high-volume full body scans (Botscan NEO 3D Scanner). The walk-in scanner has a scan completion time of 0.01 seconds. It provides Hazard-free non-contact scanning – no lasers and no requirements for protective gear, Automated scan-to-3D model workflow – 3D model generated without user input, Repeatable 3D model measurement accuracy at  1mm and Photorealistic textures. The output of this scanner comprises a 3D model (OBJ format), texture and UV map that can easily be integrated into other programs. It can also be exported for use in 3D printers.

The Walton Institute XR team have expertise in rigging models created in the Botscan for animation and inclusion in AR and VR applications. This has been particularly effective for the creation of NPCs and user avatars where a model of a person has been animated – including facial animation capture that is then applied to the model of the person in question.
