About the service

This service aims to support SMEs (Small and Medium Sized Enterprises) and PSOs (Public Sector Organisations by offering business and technical supports that are focused on exploring and leveraging the capabilities of immersive technologies, covering but not limited to Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality, Digital Twins, and the Metaverse.

The service provides of a comprehensive four-phase process as to provide actionable insights and recommendations that factors the business case along with technical and user needs requirements for integrating the emerging immersive technologies.

What to expect

The SME or PSO will meet with an interdisciplinary team who will offer specialist expertise covering user experience research, immersive
technologies, software development, AI/ML and more. Through online and in-person consultation workshops and meetings, the team will collaborate closely with the SME or PSO as to understand the business case, customer/user needs, and technical requirements as to align these within the evolving landscape of immersive technologies.

This service provides access to an interdisciplinary team and a comprehensive four-phase process. The service has been carefully designed as to provide SMEs and PSOs with supports enabling them to make informed decisions when exploring businesses cases for immersive technologies. The service offers a holistic approach, that guides SMEs and PSOs to develop technically feasible and commercially viable products and services tailored to their customers’ and end-users needs.

The four-phase service process comprises of –

1. Stakeholder Consultations and Workshops
Stakeholder interviews as to understand the business case.
User requirements workshops as to gather insights into customer needs.

2. Technology Requirements
Gather technology and use case requirements as to develop functional and non-functional requirements.

3. State-of-the-Art Survey
Evaluate commercial immersive technologies and complete a competitive analysis as to identify opportunities for the business case.
Complete an academic literature review of emerging immersive technologies.

4. Technology Roadmap and Development Framework
Based on the consultations, workshop and research undertaken during phases 1-3, a detailed technology roadmap and development framework will be recommended, considering technical constraints and trade-offs. This will inform and expediate proceeding research and development phases the SME or PSO may seek to progress with.

A Technology Roadmap and Development Framework Report. The report will comprise of these components –

– Business, user needs and technology requirements

– State-of-the-Art on immersive technologies (commercial landscape, suppliers, and capabilities) and emerging technological trends within academic research as to support the business case.

– Technology Roadmap and development framework, describing a technology development component (VR/AR content delivery platforms, tools, methods), key resources, skillsets, and a systems architecture (hardware, data, sensing methods, software tools, communications, interfaces etc.…), which could be integrated effectively towards delivering the business use case applications.

– Next Steps and Funding – Following the consultations and reports recommendations the SME or PSO will meet with the business development team who will provide guidance on next steps regarding research and development services and funding mechanisms to support.
