June 12th marked a pivotal moment for the construction sector in Ireland as more than 80 industry professionals gathered to explore the transformative power of digitalisation and AI. Hosted by the Construction Industry Federation (CIF), the event showcased practical tools, innovative thinking, and real-world applications—demonstrating how technology is reshaping the way we build.
A Collaborative Platform for Innovation
The event brought together leading voices from Ireland’s European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs), all working toward a shared goal: helping businesses navigate and accelerate their digital transformation journey. The program, fully funded and supported by Enterprise Ireland and the European Commission, offers access to expertise, testing, and training at no cost to eligible companies.
EDIH Spotlights
ENTIRE
Hazel Peavoy presented on behalf of ENTIRE, an EDIH dedicated to improving data coordination across project lifecycles. ENTIRE makes it easier for teams to capture, visualize, and share site information in real time. Hazel emphasized how ENTIRE is designed to reduce information overload and improve decision-making clarity—especially in high-pressure environments like live construction sites.
CeADAR
Laura Plunkett from CEADER opened the presentations with a strong overview of what the EDIH initiative is and why it exists. CEADER focuses on helping construction SMEs trial cutting-edge technologies before investing. Their mission is to de-risk digital adoption, offering hands-on access to smart tools, mentoring, and integration support. Think of CEADER as a “digital testbed” for Ireland’s building sector.
Data2Sustain
Mike Conroy introduced the work of Data2Sustain—an EDIH focused on sustainability and performance through better data. Their tools and services help construction companies collect, interpret, and act on environmental and operational data. From reducing carbon footprints to tracking resource efficiency, their solutions empower companies to meet compliance requirements while becoming greener and leaner.
FactoryXChange
Karin Jancykova introduced FactoryXchange, an EDIH that bridges manufacturing tech and construction. Their focus is on transferring best practices from smart factories into the construction world—think automated systems, AI-driven productivity insights, and scalable innovation methods. Their cross-sector perspective adds unique value for firms ready to rethink traditional workflows.
Digital Tools with Real-World Impact
Across all four EDIHs, the message was clear: digital transformation doesn’t have to be expensive or complex. These EDIHs exist to provide fully funded, low-risk ways for businesses to experiment, learn, and evolve.
Attendees left the session with clear, practical takeaways:
- How to access €300,000 in digital supports
- Where to test AI, VR, and data platforms before adoption
- What kinds of training and mentorship are available
- Who to contact for one-on-one innovation guidance
Looking Ahead
The CIF’s commitment to digital innovation is ongoing through its Contracting and Innovation Resource Hub, where members can access the full recording of the event, as well as tailored supports and case studies.
This event wasn’t just about raising awareness—it was a call to action. And with EDIHs like CEADER, Data2Sustain, ENTIRE, and FactoryXchange in the mix, the Irish construction industry is well-equipped to take the lead in building smarter, faster, and greener.
